Our team

GenR8 brings together some of the most experienced business, marketing and design professionals in regional Victoria. We focus on quality, consistency and getting the message right and take pride in every piece of work, no matter how large or small. Our expertise is honed by living regionally. Although regionally based, our staff have the experience of working for some of Australia’s leading marketers providing international standards but with a rural empathy. It’s a team that understands regional issues and maintains a strong network across a broad range of regional based businesses.


Garth Baulch – Genr8 Director and Senior Account Manager

Garth has spent over 24 years working with a large proportion of GenR8’s key clients. He was initially based entirely in media buying but has successfully transitioned into Account Management and concept development with the help of skilled business partners. There are few clients who haven’t walked through the door to be greeted by our longest-serving staff member. Resilient and resourceful, with a pragmatic “no fluff” attitude to promotion, Garth also has an innate sense of how best to connect with regional audiences, particularly which media markets best suit each client and their product.


John McKinnon – Director & Business Manager

As GenR8’s business manager, it’s John who’s charged with the primary role of getting the outgoings out and keeping the incomings in and generally being the glue that holds the various facets of the GenR8 construction together. Having run his own farming and agricultural businesses for more than 30 years, John provides the agency with a sharp – and genuine- rural and regional perspective.




Toby Towell – Senior Producer

Toby has been in the position of Executive Producer for over 20 years. He has produced large and small productions through his production companies and service companies around the world. Always on time, always on budget with a very high standard of production. Clients that include: Qantas, Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, Holden, Hyundai and Suzuki to name a few. Toby was one of the founding partners and Executive Producer of HAT (Hayward and Towell) productions in Sydney Australia who’s roster of 15 film directors included Gillian Armstrong and Russell Mulcahy, making HAT one of the largest production companies in Australia. Since moving to Victoria Toby has been busy Directing and Producing digital content films as well as commercials. He has handled Television commercial budgets up to 3 million dollars and Charity Commercials for nothing. He loves the diversity that filming brings to his life throughout every level of production.


The Creative Team

Steve McKenzie – Creative Director

Steve McKenzie is an experienced advertising creative and has worked in Australia, South East Asia and Europe with some of the world’s most progressive agencies and received numerous creative and effectiveness awards for his work. He started his career in Advertising at Saatchi and Saatchi Melbourne and moved to the UK in 1990 where he worked with some of the world’s leading and most progressive agencies. In this time he worked on some of the world’s largest brands, including Emirates, Volkswagon, Sony, B.T., Ikea, Nokia, GSK, COI, British Telecom, AOL, Unilever and received numerous awards, including D&AD, Cannes, Epica, Eurobest, One Show and British Television Awards. He was also twice voted ‘Creative to Watch’ by Campaign magazine. Steve has experience in all forms of advertising & communications from ATL advertising through to digital, packaging and sales promotion.

A dedicated studio

The GenR8 studio is well equipped with qualified in-house designers, as well as a list of skilled freelancers providing flexibility on call to resource as required to meet our client’s needs. From a range of backgrounds and offering different design strengths, the team is particularly well versed in corporate collateral and campaign roll-out. They incorporate design and functionality to enhance and strengthen communications, producing outstanding work from concept to completion.
